Destination Management Planning

The Government has identified that a key year one deliverable, under the Industry Action Plan for the Visitor Economy, is the implementation of a new Destination Management Planning (DMP) system for NSW.

Both the State and Federal Government have identified a key requirement for accessing future investment is a well-developed Destination Management Plan.

The Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism have published ‘The guide to best practice Destination Management‘ which is available at regionaltourism.com.au/Destination-Management. The guide provides an introduction to destination management and the process.

Destination NSW has developed a Destination Management Planning factsheet which provides information regarding destination management in NSW and what key information is required in a destination management plan.

Destination NSW encourages anyone involved in a destination management planning process to use the best practice guidelines and to read the Destination Management Planning fact sheet.

A Destination Management Plan template has been developed to outline the minimum level of information and analysis Destination NSW expects to be provided. A destination management plan does not need to use the Destination NSW template, however the information requested in the template will need to be supplied within the DMP developed.

Destination NSW has created a Statewide DMP and each of the Destination Networks have developed a DMP for their region. To obtain a copy of your region’s plan please contact your Destination Network listed below.
